The Role of New Media In A Globalized World

New Media make our lives more efficient by allowing us to stay connected with the rest of the world. Through various new "aps" we can view everything from weather forecasts to the latest news on the Middle East Conflict. While New Media provides an excellent source of information for the user, it also takes on a more prominent role. That is New Media intrinsically shapes the very events we read about in the news. The world is becoming more globalized because of the recent advances in technological uses, which drive New Media like WikiLeaks and Youtube, which in turn affects our perception of the outside world, and in turn that affects many other things such as political decisions/outcomes. My purpose is to explore how New Media promotes global awareness, since it allows the user to draw his/her own conclusions about events and take action.

  1. Hello Ilana, I really like this topic that you've chosen to explore. In my opinion, blogs and the internet have given us more ways to become informed about important issues going on all over the world. We are no longer waiting around for newspapers, or solely tuning into the 10 o'clock news for vital information. If something is happening now, we can search for it online and there is most likely a blog or other news outlet that already has it covered. This is a topic I look forward to hearing more about.
